If any of you didn't know, I am half Chilean and today an earthquake occured in Chile on a magnitude of 8.8 in the capital of Santiago. 150 are claimed dead so far and many buildings have collapsed. My father is from Chile and we have family in the city of Santiago. Phone lines have been down and we are unable to make contact with any of my family. I would appreciate if you kept them in your prayers. Thank you.

Of course Gonzo. It's always sad to hear stuff like the earthquake, but it's worse when people you know are involved. You should be able to hear from them soon. Let us know when you do, I'm sure we'd all like to know how they are doing.

I'm happy to know about your family too, Gonzalez.  I lived in Santiago for a few months back in 1982.  It is a nice city.

Indeed that earthquake was powerful, but the damage was not as severe as Haiti. And thank you Earthsalvation.

No prob.
And it didnt  mainly cause Chile was a little bit more prepared. Still doubt i'm going to see the help Haiti posters replaced with help Chile posters in London Underground.

We don't see true mountains here in Brazil.  I was born in Rio de Janeiro, moved around a bit (all inside Brazil), lived half my life in Brasilia, then came to Curitiba (still in Brazil) a couple of years ago.

Other than a couple of weeks in Florida, Santiago was the only time I ever lived abroad.
